Display: Kimono

Display: Kimono

Years ago I bought a Furisode kimono from the Ichiroya flea market. This was originally part of an elaborate Halloween costume that involved me buying multiple books (in Japanese!) on how to tie an obi, which I’ll tell you is not for the faint of heart.

After wearing the costume, I packed everything away with the intention of displaying it in my home somewhere eventually. I pulled it out again for my portrait when I was pregnant with Bebedele, because, lets be real, NOTHING ELSE FIT.

And NOW, I want to finally display it somewhere in my house that looks amazing. I don’t want a super structured display, and I don’t want it to feel like those apartments of people who display ninja swords. ( I know you know who I mean. The guy with two swords sitting on top of his t.v. stand and a Bruce Lee poster in the bedroom.)

The most informal display image I found was this image by Hollister Hovey, and it’s kind of perfect. Now I just need to find the right little nook…
